Observation

Collegenet offers a comprehensive range of lesson observation services across all curriculum areas using an experienced team of current and past Ofsted  additional inspectors.

We can offer a flexible pattern of reports and observation options according to need.

To make an enquiry and check availability please email enquiries@collegenet.co.uk  or telephone Bradley Lightbody 07919557053

Visit our training page for details of one day training courses for new and experienced lesson observers.

Please include Collegenet in any tenders for major lesson observation programmes and gain a ‘critical friend' - not only benchmarking standards but also providing clear improvement guidance.

Lesson observation

The Collegenet team includes a specialist inspector ( ex- and current inspectors) for every Area of Learning as well as a core of experienced observers who are competent observers across all areas of learning.  This gives us the flexibility and expertise to deliver:

  • a whole college observation programme
  • a single programme area
  • a cross college theme e.g tutorials, key skills
  • a cross college random mix

Normally four but up to five observations can be conducted in a day. In each case observees will receive clear developmental feedback and a written report. We are happy to use your report forms or the Collegenet standard report form. At the conclusion of an observation programme we will provide full overview oral feedback and an overview summary report as required.

Our costs will vary according to the size of the programme with discounts available for major programmes.

Internal observers may accompany the inspector to help improve their judgements.

Validation of new lesson observers

What are your quality standards for lesson observers?

Typical requirements are:
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience.
  • Full PGCE or Cert Ed.
  • Completion of a one day training course in lesson observation skills plus an annual update for experienced observers.

To further improve standards consider inviting all new lesson observers to attend a Collegenet training day followed by an observation  accompanied by a Collegenet lesson observer. The Collegenet observer will offer support and confirm judgements. Up to five observations can be conducted in a day and satisfactory observers receive a certificate of competence.
Mock inspection

Collegenet can deliver a mock inspection of a single curriculum area or a full mock inspection across all areas of learning. Gain clear recommendations for improvements from detailed curriculum area reports.

Further inspectors can be attached to the team to report upon wider Key Questions as required.

The mock inspection can be confined to a single ‘inspection' week or implemented as a rolling programme with a different curriculum area selected for inspection each week. The inspection can be a four day or five day programme i.e. three days observation plus one day report or four days observation plus one day report. No individual reports are issued to observees within the mock inspection programme because of the time needed for meetings and to examine base room documentation. However, individual reports are a feature of the validation programme.
